Early History
The area where Frankfurt is located has been inhabited since prehistoric times. The city traces its origins back to the first century AD when the Romans built a settlement called "Nida" on the site. The Romans established a fort and a bridge over the Main River, which played a crucial role in trade and transportation.

Medieval Era
In the early Middle Ages, Frankfurt became an important trading center and a member of the Hanseatic League, a powerful commercial and defensive confederation of merchant guilds. The city grew rapidly, and in 1240, it was granted city rights. The coronations of several Holy Roman Emperors took place in Frankfurt, establishing it as an imperial city.

Renaissance and Reformation: In the 16th century, Frankfurt played a significant role in the Protestant Reformation.
