Franchising: NO Experience Necessary

Franchising: NO Experience Necessary

Many people feel that in order for them to become business owners, and especially in a franchise, that they have to have industry experience in the industry of the franchise that they're looking into.? This is a myth.? The reality is that franchisors actually prefer that you come in with very little to no experience in their industry, so that they can teach you the right way to be successful using their business model.?

Steps to Success

When I meet with clients, I take them through several steps, including completing an entrepreneur profile.? This allows me to identify what their core competencies are and what their transferable skills are, because more than industry experience, franchisors want to know what your transferable skills are.?

So what are they? Those are the skills that you've learned and acquired over the years in previous careers. Maybe you have customer service experience, maybe you have management experience, maybe you've been a great leader for your particular company. Most of the clients that I have helped into franchise ownership bought a franchise in an industry completely different than they have worked in.? I recently worked with an army officer that had recently retired and was looking for his next career.? In his 20 years of service he acquired many valuable, transferable skills like leadership, operations, team building that made him an excellent candidate for franchise ownership.? It might surprise you that the business he chose was a lash franchise.? He had no previous experience in the lash industry but had great transferable skills that he was able to use in his lash business.

Where do Your Strengths Lie?

Wherever your strengths lie, you're going to be able to use those as a business owner.? That’s what’s going to lead you to success, more so than having haircutting experience if you're buying a haircutting business. Franchises actually prefer that you come in with very little to no experience, so that there's less mistakes and less wrong ways for them to correct. Franchises have systems and processes in place to help their franchisees succeed, basically their recipe for success.? It’s more important to the franchise that their franchisees are able and willing to follow their systems and processes than whether or not they have experience in the industry.

If you're interested in identifying what your core competencies are and figuring out what your skill sets are that you bring to the table, message me. Schedule some time on my calendar and we can talk and figure out what those are.? www.calendly.com/clardizabal
