Despite your best efforts, you might reach a point where you question whether you can or even want to continue on this challenging journey.

What can you do when you hit that wall? Can you recover from this situation, or is your business destined for failure??In this blog post, we’ll dive into?three options you have when you’re feeling franchise fatigue?and strategies to rediscover the love for your business.?Plus, a bonus option that most franchisees don't even consider.?

My goal is to share information about?the different paths you can take?so that?you can?make?the right choice. And, if you need help deciding, I offer guidance on what’s best for you and your business’s future.

Option #1: Doing Nothing

This is by far the worst possible option if you have franchise fatigue because it will change nothing. I have seen burned-out franchisees more often than I would like. Despite their emotions, they keep going but complain about everything, from the business and the franchisor to the employees, the customers, the sales, and the economy.?

What happens? Their frustration spreads like wildfire, affecting their families, friends, franchise businesses, and team members, which could harm the business further and worsen the situation.?

If this is where you are, you need to ask yourself:

  • Do you want to keep suffering? Yes, you are suffering.
  • Do you want your family and friends to feel your stress? Everyone around you can sense that something isn't right.
  • Do you want your employees and customers to notice your burnout? It could drive them away, as no one wants to be involved in that environment.

If you don't act, you will continue living in this franchise fatigue cycle. The good news is that you do have other options!

Option #2: Selling

If you are truly done, this may be your best choice. But selling your franchise is not as easy as putting a “For Sale” sign outside your store and waiting for the best offer. You must prepare yourself and your business for that sale to get the best possible price, including:

  • Evaluate your business value. Buyers look at profitability, the systems you have in place, and how much your business depends on you. The more your business depends on you, the less value it will have for others because you want out.
  • Get your financials in order. You must be clear on your numbers and have clean, accurate financials to truly determine the value of your business based on your records.

  • Check your franchise agreement. Some franchisors have a strict resale process, and there may even be a fee, so you need to know the rules and share them with the buyers.?
  • Find a buyer. The buyer could be another franchisee, an investor, or even a key employee eager to take over the business. Finding the right person will take time, and the franchisor must approve them.
  • Negotiate and close the deal. You'll have to do due diligence and negotiations. A well-prepared business sells faster and for a higher value. However, if the buyer knows you want out, the price will probably be lower, so you may not get the price you want or hope for.

Option #3: Closing the Business

It’s an option if you have franchise fatigue, but be careful: even if you shut down, you might still owe money, especially if you have a lease, loans, or a franchise agreement that will be in effect for several years.?

Selling is a better choice if your business has value and makes money. If this sounds like the right plan for you, I can help you make it happen. But maybe you're not ready to give up just yet…

Falling Back in Love with Your Business

Have you considered that maybe you need a fresh perspective and a new strategy to reignite the passion you had when you first started your franchise business?

Here are a few tips to help you feel refreshed and excited (again) about your business:

  1. Get a franchise coach or a mentor. Having a fresh set of eyes looking at your business and giving you expert guidance can help you find opportunities you may have missed and regain the lost passion.
  2. Develop a leader to take over your day-to-day operations. Perhaps you just need to take a break and step back to re-energize. If that’s the case, delegate the operations to a trusted manager and take some time for yourself to get excited about your business again.
  3. Reconnect with your mission. Think about what got you into the business in the first place and what attracted you to franchising. Going back to your roots and remembering your greater purpose or biggest goal may motivate you to continue with your business. Don’t hesitate to discover a new mission if necessary.
  4. Innovate. Even though you're limited in the number of things you can innovate within the brand, you can still find areas of improvement. Maybe you can change how you operate your business, develop a new business culture, streamline your business systems, or introduce new processes to make things easier or more fun for you and your people.?

Franchise success is not just about the business; it’s about life. If you're experiencing franchise fatigue and have lost the joy in your daily work, you might need a reset. I've helped many franchises find their spark again, and I would love to help you do the same.?

BONUS! Option #4

Now, as I mentioned, there is a fourth option that many fatigued franchisees don't consider. How about converting your business or expanding into another brand?

  • If the problem is the brand you invested in because it no longer excites you, you could convert your franchise business into another brand under the same ownership. If your current franchise isn't working, but you love franchising, running a business, and working alongside your people, exploring another business model might be best for you.?
  • On the other hand, if your current brand is doing well, you may get excited about acquiring another brand and going multi-brand. If you feel stagnant, adding a new franchise brand to your portfolio could ignite your passion for business while increasing your profitability. Plus, it will make it fun again.?

Both options require careful planning, but they're worth considering before walking away from franchising altogether.?

?

Where do you stand? Are you going to stay stuck, or are you going to sell? Will you move on or explore getting re-energized to build something even better? Conversion or expansion may be the right choices...?

Whatever it is, you don't have to figure things out alone! I would like to offer you a FREE call with me so that we can discuss your options. Click on this link or visit www.abcalendar.com to schedule a free video call session with me today.?

Reflections:

  • Are you experiencing franchise fatigue due to the model itself or the absence of knowledge, skills, and tools?
  • Who could be your mentor or coach to help you thrive in your franchise?
  • Have you considered the pros & cons of selling or closing your business?
  • What can you do differently this year to achieve your dreams and goals?
