"France, A Tower of Passion"
Today's featured work is entitled, "France, A Tower of Passion"
This piece is 24 x 36" in size, and was created using Acrylic and Mixed Media on Canvas.
Stylistically, the piece represents a combination of Geometric Color Field Painting and as well 3D Geometric Surrealism.
The upper portion of the painting is a Geometric Color Field, representing the French Flag.
The bottom portion, a 3D relief construction of the base of the Eiffel Tower.
The flag portion was constructed to reveal a gentle balance of pigment and media blending to come up with the weathered effects you see. The flag is shown as aged and worn, metaphorically depicting the lengthy and complex history of the great country of France.
The Eiffel Tower relief was built in multiple stages. Several thin layers of deep blue pigmentation media were laid down first. Then carefully, the 3D framework of the tower base was built in on top of it. Then again, layers of blue media were placed down over the tool-work and then delicately extracted bit by bit for effect. Ultimately leaving us with the 3D architectural relief effects as you see them.
Somewhat difficult to notice in this image today will be the distinct 3D relief elements built into the tower base. The surreal architectural representation of the tower base comes off the canvas approximately 1/16 of an inch, thus adding an extra dimensional appeal to the painting and it's construction.
I hope you have enjoyed my brief discussion on "France, A Tower of Passion."
