France allocates 911.5MW of ground-mounted PV projects in new renewable energy tender
Recently, the French Ministry of Ecological Transition announced the results of the fifth round of the multi-energy program PPE2 ground-mounted PV tender. A total of 92 projects were awarded a total of 911.5MW.
The PV projects in this tender range in size from 500kW to 5MW. The minimum carbon footprint is 200kg CO2 eq/kW and the maximum is 550kg CO2 eq/kW. The commissioning period is 30 months. The average price at the end of the procurement campaign was €0.0819/kWh. In the fourth tender of the series, the French government allocated 1.5GW of PV capacity at an average price of €0.0824/kWh.
According to consultancy Finergreen, 34 developers were identified among the winners of the fifth round, of which 21 received a share of less than 20MW. The developers that received the largest shares were EDF (191.4MW), Neoen (118.9MW), Urba Solar (83.7MW), CVE (64.1MW), BayWa r.e (63.4MW), and Générale du Solaire (39.9MW)
According to data from the French Ministry of Ecological Transformation, France added about 3.2GW of installed PV capacity in 2023, with about 955MW added in the fourth quarter alone. cumulative installed PV capacity in France reached 20.0GW at the end of December 2023. the total capacity of queued solar projects that have filed grid-connections applications is currently 22.4GW, of which about 5.8GW have signed preliminary grid-connections agreements.
In recent years, France has successfully promoted the construction of large-scale PV projects through bidding, supported by policies and regulations in the field of renewable energy, which has contributed to the rapid growth of installed PV capacity. Despite its achievements, the French PV industry still faces a number of challenges. These include difficulties in grid access, instability in policies and regulations, and problems in financing and management. With technological advances and market development, the French PV industry is expected to continue to grow and make a greater contribution to France's renewable energy transition and carbon emission reduction.
