A Framework for Celebrating Pride Month Authentically in Your Business

A Framework for Celebrating Pride Month Authentically in Your Business

This month, as we reflect on the progress made towards equality, we recognise the work that still needs to be done. At Artisan we firmly believe that diversity and inclusion are fundamental to our success. Our staff and client portfolio reflect a rich mosaic of identities and experiences, and this month (and beyond), we are thrilled to celebrate Pride in ways that align with our core values of optimism, inclusivity, and respect.

The LGBTQIA+ Workplace

● According to the Gay Times, since 2014 the number of people who identify as lesbian, gay or bisexual has doubled.

● More than a third of LGBT staff (approx 35%) have hidden that they are LGBT at work for fear of discrimination.

● One in eight trans people have been physically attacked by customers or colleagues in the last year because of being trans.

● One in eight black, Asian and minority ethnic LGBT employees have lost a job in the last year because of being LGBT

● Almost a third of non-binary people and one in five trans people don’t feel able to wear work attire representing their gender expression.

● A recent report found around seven out of ten LGBT workers experienced at least one type of sexual harassment at work.

Businesses that engage genuinely with Pride initiatives see deeper customer loyalty and respect.

So, what can we do to engage meaningfully, ensuring our actions resonate with both integrity and impact?

Here are three actionable ways to support your LGBTQ+ employees all year round.

These strategies go beyond the basics, fostering a workplace where everyone feels valued and heard.

1. Create an inclusive policy framework

● Review policies through an inclusivity lens.

● Implement gender-neutral bathrooms.

● Offer health benefits that respect all identities.

● Show that your company is committed to inclusivity.

2. Offer targeted professional development

● Create mentorship programs.

● Sponsor LGBTQ+ leadership training.

● Facilitate attendance at relevant conferences.

3. Implement a zero-tolerance policy for discrimination

● Clearly communicate policies.

● Train managers and staff.

● Ensure accountability and support for affected employees.

After all, companies that actively foster inclusivity see increased employee satisfaction and retention.

In conclusion, our Pride Month celebrations are a reflection of our unwavering commitment to diversity, inclusion, and optimism. By fostering an inclusive workplace, engaging with the community, and supporting our clients, we are proud to stand in solidarity with the LGBTQ+ community. Together, we can create a brighter, more inclusive future for all. Happy Pride!
