The Fragrance of Life: The Feast Within
Through evocative poetry and reflective musings, the author hopes to invite readers on a profound inner journey, celebrating the nuanced beauty of life and the shared humanity.
Inspired by Dr. D. V. Gundappa's (DVG) Manku Thimmana Kagga, this is a humble attempt to introduce its timeless wisdom to a global audience. The poems delve into the deeper questions of life, offering insights on how to lead a balanced life amidst the complexities and constant changes by adopting a moderate and pragmatic approach. DVG's original work remains a crown jewel of Kannada literature and is celebrated as modern Bhagavad Gita.
?In the whirl of life, we often find ourselves chasing fleeting pleasures, much like a hungry soul lured by the fragrance of a distant feast. But can feeding our desires ever truly satisfy us? This poem, The Fragrance of Life, offers a thought-provoking reflection on this inner pursuit, compelling us to ask deeper questions.
As the world tempts us with sights, sounds, and endless desires, we often forget the toll it takes on our peace of mind. The poem poignantly contrasts the futility of chasing external fulfilment with the inner wisdom that transcends worldly cravings. It tells us that neither indulgence nor harsh denial brings lasting peace—only the quiet path of wisdom can.
True contentment, as the poem suggests, isn’t found in things outside of us. It lies deep within, waiting to be discovered. The poem urges us to seek the truth beyond material gains, guiding us toward an inner sanctuary where real peace abides.
But the journey doesn’t end here. What happens when we stop chasing and start listening to the quiet voice within?

EXPRESSION: Interpretation
?
THE FRAGRANCE OF LIFE
By fleeting scents, we chase the feast,
A hunger deep, that never seems to cease.
Can filling plates, and hearts that ache,
Bring peace to minds that never wake?

The world enchants with sights and sound,
Desires bloom yet tied us down.
To starve the soul, with rigid will,
Is not the way to make it still.
The royal path is calm and clear,
Not forged through pain or guided by fear.
For wisdom’s light, a steady hand,
Will lead us through this shifting sand.
So, seek the truth, not bound by chains,
And rise above life’s fleeting gains.
The feast you crave, is not outside,
But found within, where peace abides.
