Fragments of Thought: Planetary Perspectives

Fragments of Thought: Planetary Perspectives

I’m writing. Fragments. Trying to shape up an essay with a very high level perspective, but i know it’s beyond me. Ambitious, way too much so, but i think the trying is good for me. I’m writing about a planetary perspective – people, landscapes, ideas. It’s stretching me, and i may make some fortuitous connections – or at the very least it may force me not to simply repeat what i am certain about. So i’m trying: ninw sections so far:

  • Shadows on the Earth – a systems view of humanity – this is a broadening of perspective to consider the notion of humanity within the ecosystem, not standing upon it.
  • Fracturing Citizenship – this is probably closest to my existing work on the Social Age, exploring our radical connectivity, synchronicity of communication, and the abstraction of space as the digital domain matures.
  • The Unreconciled Self – specifically to consider the things we have lost or are losing. Our separation from the local, our emergent global cultures, the distillation of global mythology, the need to belong and the reinterpretation of what belonging means.
  • The Space of Belief – our need to be held, the permission to forgive, the urge to judge, the emergence of celebrity, a world beyond gods, belief itself as culture.
  • Dialogue Engines – a hyper connected world, the sensory halo that surrounds it, the new Dialogic AI, commodification of the social, anthropomorphism and empathy. Human exceptionalism.
  • Moving towards my more philosophical work on ‘In how many ways can we know a place?’ The analytic, the narrative, the philosophical. Trans-nationality, the narrated soul (the Instagram soul).
  • Embodiment of Being – to reconcile consciousness into landscape – self into landscape. This is the most abstract part i know. Ideas of motion, boundary, trespass (which you will have seen in my Social Leadership work recently.
  • The Tyranny of Taxonomy – self, space, system, and how taxonomies are only useful until they are not…
  • The Self Remaking Society – the Social Age – interconnection, planetship.

This is all very decadent and fragmentary i know, but i’m ok with it, and ok to share it. As i said, this is an activity that is deliberately challenging to me. Maybe some ideas will shake out of it.

This work is shared as part of #WorkingOutLoud – and this piece is particularly fragmented.

Fascinating concepts and will look forward to reading more as it develops.
