FOXR2: Activated Key Gene in most cancer types
Forkhead Box R2, or FOXR2, as the name suggests, is a forkhead transcription factor located on the X chromosome whose expression is normally restricted to the testis. It is usually turned off in most bodily tissues.?A pathbreaking joint study by MIT, Harvard and Dana-Faber Cancer Institute has found that FOXR2 is abnormally activated across 70% of all cancer types and 8% of all individual tumors.?
This pioneering effort spanned a pan-cancer analysis of FOXR2 activation across more than 10,000 adult and paediatric cancer samples. The study will undoubtedly help gain new insights into how cancer develops. The research team is reportedly working with chemists and structural biologists to explore ways of targeting this gene with potentially pathbreaking treatments.
