The fox the hedgehog and a daffodil

As we celebrate St David's Day around the world by wearing a daffodil (or a leek), one of our greatest guardians going forward will be our mindset and how we think.

The analogy of the fox and hedgehog stretches back to the ancient Greek poet, Archilochus, who said:

"The fox knows many things, the hedgehog one big thing".

Oxford philosopher, Isaiah Berlin, used this distinction to articulate two types of thinkers:

Foxes incorporate diverse sources of information and constantly update their assumptions in the face of new evidence.

Hedgehogs relate everything to one big idea.

In a rapidly changing, uncertain world of turbulence, uncertainty, novelty and ambiguity, (TUNA conditions) companies need exceptional traits of leadership to survive and thrive. Think with the mind of a fox!

HAPPY ST DAVIDS DAY
