#FourMinuteFridays...This Week at the PorterShed
PorterShed
A place to work, share and succeed together. 300+ incredible members, 55+ indigenous tech start-ups #backedbyAIB
As we near the end of May - and the end of another week - it’s time for another #FourMinuteFridays as we recap a fun five days of action across both PorterShed buildings. This week, we had visitors from abroad, local start-up stalwarts, and events happening. It really was an action-packed week. So, why not take four minutes out of your afternoon to read up on what happened in the heart of Galway’s tech community…
On Tuesday, we had a visit from Soopa - an organisation that offers 100-per cent superfood treats as an alternative to some of the supermarket-ready options currently out there. Barbara arrived into our Eyre Square location with her chihuahua Lily, and our very own Aoife was ready to take a snap - which you can see on our Twitter feed here!
We launched our Jobs newsletter during the week! In all, we had over 45 jobs listed - and there are even more on our members’ careers pages. Make sure you take a read of this month’s edition right here - and you can subscribe here, too, to make sure you receive next month’s edition.
We also launched our features newsletter - and it was chock full of interviews, articles, and members’ news. Stories about Xplore Local, Baseworx, the Galway tech Meetup and more are all in there! You can pore over May’s edition here, and you can also subscribe to make sure you never miss an issue in your inbox.
Our friends at JETRO (the Japanese External Trade Organisation) visited us this week to further strengthen our amazing links. They also met with JETRO client company RugbySmarts co-founders Yvonne Comer and William Johnstone for an enlightening discussion.
Also, Claire Rivenc (Département Mesures Physiques IUT de Bordeaux) visited during the week to find out more information about the PorterShed. She was accompanied by Catherine Gagneux, French Honorary Consul. Professor John Breslin and Anthony Shaughnessy were also in attendance to provide further context and speak about the Irish ecosystem. C'etait un grand plaisir - on espére qu'ils vont revisité Galway a l'avenie!

Our stellar Programme Manager Rosemary Gallagher shared the phenomenal PorterShed story with EiTi2i this week. It’s always a pleasure to see that people are interested in what we’re doing here, and no better person than Rosemary to help spread the good news. “Our founders are our North Star, everything we do starts with the question how is this helping our founders,” Rosemary said.
We love when companies we admire get the most out of our spaces. And on Thursday, a gang from Centus made use of our boardroom for a few hours - and it was a real treat to meet and greet them. Always great to have them visiting!
On Thursday, CitySwift hosted their phenomenal hackathon at our Bowling Green location. Their team got together to brainstorm, discuss company values, and collaborate as a community. It was fantastic to see...and there were lots of cups of coffee drank throughout the day"
Stephen Tummon and Chris Place sat down to record the first episode of their podcast series - and they made use of our podcast studio in Bowling Green. Stephen will be swimming the Channel in fewer than six weeks’ time, and the first episode, which you can listen to on Spotify, is a fascinating way to spend 20 minutes of your day. Stephen opened up about what it’s been like to wait, how his recent training has gone, and his latest, gruelling six-hour swim. We’re rooting for you, Stephen!
We also gave away free cinema tickets to the Eye Cinema this week! A couple of PorterShed members won two pairs of tickets each to see a movie of their choice. Paul was picked for participating in Blas (our culinary get-together), and Rory won for being the first to guess our custom #wordle correctly?(psssst...have you had a go at this month's PorterShed wordle?)
Connacht Hospitality Group’s Eveanna Ryan was our special guest mentor for this week’s NDRC Office Hours - and she was fully booked for all sessions that took place on Friday morning. It was a real treat to have Eveanna taking over the spot for the week - and we’d love to have her back at some point in the future!
And that's a wrap on another edition of #FourMinuteFridays...thanks for reading! Come back next week for another recap on a busy, fun week at the PorterShed!
It was fantastic to join you all in the new building. Thanks for facilitating our first official meeting as clients of JETRO. It's an exciting time!
