#FourMinuteFridays - This Week at PorterShed

Calling every-bunny to the table! Easter is almost here, and we’re ready to indulge in our Easter Eggs and spend the long weekend with family and friends. We've got a jam-packed basket of news and events to share with you all. To start the week, we had the The Land Development Agency launch their new ambitious plans for the land surrounding Galway’s Sandy Road. Not to mention, we are proud to share our insights using our new air management system in PorterShed a hAon, Bowling Green which is designed to ensure optimal air quality in our co-working space. On Thursday, PorterShed hosted Paintclub , an event which brought out the creative side of our members as well as raising funds for Corinthians Girls Rugby. All of this and much more in this week's edition of #FourMinuteFridays

On Monday, our Innovation Space was in full flow as The Land Development Agency (LDA) launched plans to transform the Sandy Road area in Galway into a vibrant urban community, known as the Sandy Quarter. The draft spatial framework proposes the development of up to 750 mixed-tenure homes, including social and affordable units, situated around a central park and a series of smaller garden courts, pocket parks and a public square. The aim is to provide high-quality affordable homes based on the principles of sustainability, active mobility and access to quality open space, with a mix of housing types envisaged. The proposed design includes character areas linked throughout the site, such as The Garden District, The Boardwalk, and The Hub. The consultation process will run for six weeks until 12 May, with feedback used to identify how the site can develop and where a first development phase could happen before a final version of the framework is published later this year. Some very exciting news for the city of Galway… (watch this space - no pun intended!)

Our building, PorterShed a hAon on Bowling Green has received feedback regarding the installation of the Novacene Air Quality monitors. To ensure a high-quality working environment for its members, the PorterShed management team engaged Novacene to install an array of sensors to manage and track air quality, temperature, humidity, light and occupancy. Novacene's technology provides real-time monitoring and alerts managers when spaces operate outside agreed parameters. According to the management team, air quality at the PorterShed has consistently improved since the installation of Novacene's monitors, and the building is now operating at 100% with consistent CO2 readings of 400-600 ppm. The implementation of Novacene's technology has allowed us to identify and improve problem areas that we would have otherwise been unable to detect. The correlation between air quality and performance is a scientifically established fact, and since software engineers prioritize performance optimization, Novacene's advanced technology enables us to optimize all aspects of the building for our members.?

Also, in this week’s #FourMinuteFridays, yesterday, PorterShed hosted our first in-person Paintclub event. In the midst of getting creative, we also helped raise funds in supporting the Corinthians Girls Rugby team. With step-by-step guidance, partnered with easter eggs galore, the evening of painting was brilliantly executed. A huge shout-out to all those who attended and well done to Aisling Kearney Burke in bringing it to the PorterShed.

Finally, a quick reminder that we are hosting the upcoming NDRC Masterclass: Innovating in Regulated Industries. This masterclass will help any of those recognise and overcome regulatory barriers when it comes to establishing your start-up business. On the day, you’ll hear from Dr. Clyde Hutchinson , Emma Carr, PhD and our Programme Manager & NDRC Regional Lead Rosemary Gallagher as they share their insights on the guidance of the topic. As well as this, you’ll have the opportunity to hear from startups operating in highly regulated industries, and their bumpy road to market through navigating the regulation map! The hybrid event offers those the chance to join us in person in PorterShed a Dó or via Zoom. Don’t waste time, find out more and sign up now here.?
