#FourMinuteFridays - This Week at the PorterShed
PorterShed
A place to work, share and succeed together. 300+ incredible members, 55+ indigenous tech start-ups #backedbyAIB
With Friday upon us and the weekend almost here, it's time for another re-cap of the past five days - and what a few days it has been. We've had a few VIP trips over to the almost-completed Market St. building at the former Connacht Tribune offices, and the reactions have all been super positive, which is fabulous news for us because we want to make sure our members are happy. Knowing we are helping to create impressive spaces where big ideas continue to flourish means as much to us as it does to the people who use them - and the future generations who will use them, too.
Or, as one young visitor put it on a tour of Bowling Green this week, "this place makes me feel inspired". With that, let's dive in to another edition of #FourMinuteFridays:
We had quite a few visitors in to us this week - and it's lovely seeing people walk in to meet our community. One of our favourite visitors this week was Zander - a gorgeous Irish guide dog who was a charity ambassador on his visit. Check out the photo we took of him in front of our living green wall at Bowling Green. The reason for the surprise visit was because the PorterShed community are raising funds for the Irish Guide Dogs by doing a skydive (wow). A group of 14 people will be taking to a 13,000ft height to jump on September 13th. So, if you'd like to contribute to this worthwhile cause, where 100 percent of the money raised will be donated to the charity, you can do so right here.
We also welcomed in Clearpreso's Ed Fidgeon-Kavanagh, and Trevor took him on a tour of Bowling Green. Afterwards, Ed joined a mini VIP group to check out the adjacent building, PorterShed a Do. Ed was blown away with the space and took to Twitter early on Friday to say "it would half make me want to move West" which is a pretty good endorsement, if we do say so ourselves.
Little Cinema have been camped out in the Bowling Green event space as participants take part in their 48-hour challenge. Writers, videographers, and cinephiles are teaming up to make five-minute films that will be shown during the booked-out grand screening at the Pálás Cinema in the heart of Galway city. We love having the Little Cinema team in every year, and we're already looking forward to next year. All the best to everyone taking part in the challenge - we're sure the films will all be awesome!
Earlier this week, it was announced that the next?IDEAM Cluster?members to receive their certified membership packs were?John McGeown?(Head of Manufacturing, AIB Sector Strategy & Sector Specialists) and the team at?AIB. Jamie Meehan accompanied John to Bowling Green, and they took a few photos to mark the occasion. Congratulations to John and AIB!

As ever, Rosemary Gallagher led the NDRC Office Hours from the PorterShed this week. Every Friday, a few 25-minute one-to-one slots are available for founders to bounce ideas off a start-up expert, and our Programme Manager was in the hotseat this Friday to provide feedback and advice. They are a great way for founders to understand different pathways and figure out next steps. If you're interested in securing a slot, you can do so by clicking through here.
Each week, we have a weekly 'What's Happening' email for members that picks out some of the key highlights to come from the week ahead, so if you'd like to be added to the mailing list and be in-the-know before anything happens, contact [email protected].
Our?Twitter,?Facebook, and?Instagram?accounts -?come join our social family to keep up to date on all that happens every week. Plus, you should also check out?our website?to find out information about membership and more....and?make sure you're subscribed to our mailing list?to keep abreast of all the articles and interviews we're doing with founders and start-up leaders!
So, that's a wrap on some of the highlights from the past five days - it's been busy and enjoyable, as always! We love what we do at the PorterShed, and we always welcome new faces, so pay us a visit any time for a tour or to find out more information.
