We’re well into August now, and next week, we’re promised amazing weather out west. With the halfway mark of the year just gone, it’s amazing to think of how quickly time is flying - and it’s going even faster in start-up land, where things continue to move at breakneck speed. For now, though, we’re back with another edition of #FourMinuteFridays where we recap many of the highlights from the past five days. It’s always nice to reflect on a busy and fun few days as we summarise many of the main events, visitors, and talking points before jumping into the weekend.?
So, come on and join us for a quick rundown of all that’s happened…it’ll only take four minutes!
We continued sharing some of the stories from our newsletters - Galway’s Calling and the PorterShed Monthly - and it has been great to see such amazing reaction to many of the updates that our members are continuing to share. Cormac Casey, founder of two fantastic start-ups, spoke to us about his love of e-commerce, why he wants to solve business’ problems, and his plans to conquer the world’s Seven Summits. Holly Pettingale, PorterShed member and sustainability expert with FTI Consulting, talked to us about what companies and individuals can do to make a positive impact. And, we also shared out the interview we did with Eamonn Carey, co-author of The Start-up Lexicon.?
Our Entrepreneur-in-Residence, Bob Rosenberg, took over the NDRC Office Hours from the PorterShed this week. Every Friday, we host feedback sessions every Friday from 10 am to 12 pm so that founders can ask questions and get to the bottom of problems they are having. These regular sessions are part of the early-stage supports offered through NDRC, and we’re delighted to be able to play our part in making life easier for founders. It’s always brilliant to have Bob dishing out his start-up advice to founders at all levels, and some PorterShed members even took advantage of his insight and wisdom. One of our members waxed lyrical about him after one of the one-to-one sessions today - “he knows exactly what to say to you, it’s great!”.?
We continued promoting our various campaigns this week - we love sharing our news to the wider world because we’re all about making the world of work easier for everyone. Our August special of €20 for a hot desk will run for the rest of the month, and we’re seeing lots of new faces come through the doors every day. Our community is always growing, and the appetite from people around Galway to experience the co-working atmosphere is awesome. We also continued to share our Virtual Office campaigns, which you can read all about here on our Twitter feed.
We had a great call with Connected Hubs during the week where we got together with many of the hubs from across the country. There are now 277 co-working spaces live on their website - and it’s a trend that is sure to continue and grow stronger as the months roll by. We love linking up with our hub friends from around the island - it’s always fun to hear what’s happening - and news of the Digital First day on November 16 is certainly something to get excited about, with lots more on the horizon for the remainder of the year.
First Fridays for Startups was held in Dogpatch Labs once again, and it was great to see all of the wonderful expertise on show throughout the session. We held a watch party in the PorterShed and it was fun to join in. For those who don’t know, First Fridays is a monthly get-together, which is often held in person and virtually, that brings together founders, those interested in the start-up world, and mentors for an info-packed day of insights and fun. This month, the Educate panel featured journalists Jess Kelly and Charlie Taylor, and Account Manager at 150 Bond, Philip Costigan. Jake Philips, Aisling Conlon, Viktoria Hensler, and Ian Browne were stellar hosts on the day.
