Hello and welcome to another edition of #FourMinuteFridays where we recap some of the highlights from the past five days. It's always fun to look back on what has happened, the people we've met, and the achievements our members have earned. We love what we are, and the people who make up our community - and those around our city - so it's always nice to reflect and smile about what has happened recently in the heart of Galway city.
So, join us for a recap and see why so many people enjoy life at the PorterShed, and all it has to offer!
We continued our equine-themed fun this week at the PorterShed as more of our members took advantage of the amazing jockey silk and horse decals that Aoife Cheung installed on our front entrance at Bowling Green. There were plenty of photos taken, and Aoife even put together this amazing compilation of all the races fun we've been having these past few weeks. We're really excited about the Galway Races which gets underway at the end of the month, and we can't wait to see even more of a buzz around the place as everyone descends on the City of Tribes.
During the week, the PorterShed attended the Galway Chamber Connect event which was held at the HID Global offices in Galway city. It was amazing to see so many people in attendance for the morning get-together, as people mingled and chatted throughout. Trevor Fox of HID Global spoke during a fireside chat with Galway Chamber CEO Kenneth Deery about how special Galway is and touched on how important it is that we collectively continue to make Galway the best it can be. Galway Chamber President Dermot Nolan also added, "HID Global is a reminder of how well Galway can do when we compete". It was a really enjoyable event that even had some great Wordle fun for everyone to partake in!
It was fantastic to be invited down to the official opening of Stodgeface during the week, and we were delighted to sample some of their delicious doughnuts and cupcakes. Thanks so much to all the gang there for making us right at home and giving us two boxes of goodies to share with our Bowling Green and Eyre Square community members (they didn't last too long!). Trevor Murray took this video to mark the occasion, and it was great to see such a big turnout at the High Street eatery. So, if you're in the city during the week and you fancy some tasty treats, make sure to pop in and see what all the fuss is about.
We continued sharing some of our latest blogs and interviews from the PorterShed.com website, and we're loving the reaction that our members' stories are receiving online. We shared out the interview we did with RugbySmarts' CEO and co-founder Yvonne Comer. In the interview, which you can read here, Yvonne spoke about the company's aspirations for the future and how they are planning to go global. We also shared out this piece on how communities are the lifeblood of so many hubs around the country, including quotes from our very own Community/Production manager Anthony Shaughnessy where he said: "It’s true what they say, ‘innovation breeds innovation’, and I see it every day where founders are helping each other at all stages of the journey. And we’re proud they have somewhere to come and do exactly that.”
PorterShed alumni, Diligent, had their office opening at Bonham Quay today where An Tánaiste Leo Varadkar made the official unveiling. It was great to see such a big turnout there as so many people came together for the important moment. It's always encouraging and inspiring to witness big companies like Diligent setting up shop in our Galway, and long may it continue!

It was nice to see NDRC and Dogpatch Labs' head of Platform Menno Axt visit us in Bowling Green this week as he met with some of our members throughout Thursday. Menno is an incredibly knowledgeable and well-connected person to know in the start-up world, and we can't wait to welcome him back in the near future. You're always welcome in here, Menno!
Our members continued to make the most of the Flogas and Brite Mobility ebikes that are stationed at our premises for the next while. It's been fun seeing so many people setting off on their bikes throughout the day to enjoy the sights around the city.
