It's time for your weekly edition of PorterShed news, community developments, and fun stories - so, why not join us for a quick four-minute recap of what went down these past five days? As usual, it's been a jam-packed time, and it's been a pleasure to be part of all the action. We've had get-togethers, VIP visitors, road trips, and plenty of interesting updates. It's hard to believe we're already in October, and Halloween is only around the corner! We're looking forward to all that's to come for the remainder of 2022 - and trust us, there's lots happening over the next few months. For now, though, let's dive into #FourMinuteFridays!
The week started with the wonderful news that Damian Browne had successfully completed his incredible solo row from New York to Galway - becoming the first man to ever achieve the feat. It was inspiring to hear his incredible story, and it certainly set us up to tackle the week with fresh enthusiasm and vigour. Huge congratulations to Damian on his historic success!
We posted a photo on Twitter this week of Quiptech's John Tobin in front of our living green wall at Bowling Green. John was in to meet PorterShed Director and co-founder Dave Cunningham to discuss nurturing bonds between Galway and Mexico. PorterShed's Aoife Cheung and Trevor Murray were also involved in the meeting. It's a continued pleasure to meet people like John who are dedicated to fostering new innovation and creating international links with all areas of the world. We're really looking forward to seeing what happens with this partnership - and we're excited to welcome John again down the line.
PorterShed CEO Mary Rodgers and Office Manager Aoife Cheung were both in attendance at the Galway racecourse in Ballybrit for the launch of the #RaceInPink. Sinéad Cassidy extended the invite - and Mary and Aoife were delighted to take part on the day. They even got to meet RTé broadcasting legend Ryan Tubridy!
We welcome more TY students into the PorterShed at Bowling Green - and this time, it was Cian and Aaron's turn to get the VIP treatment as they hung out with some of our start-up members. Diarmaid ó Fátharta took them on a visit to the Outset Gallery, and the two students were delighted with their experience on the day. Fantastic, as ever, to see young people getting involved and receiving such amazing mentorship from our brilliant entrepreneurs.
Once again, we had Blas - and this time, we ordered from GOYAS! Our members love when Thursdays roll around because it means they get to taste delights from all across the city. Our kitchens in Bowling Green and Eyre Square were abuzz with conversation as everyone got together to enjoy some great food and have fascinating discussions.
The PorterShed book club took centre stage later in the week as people gathered together to share their thoughts on the book of the month - Small Things Like These. Check out the photo on Twitter for a sense of what it's like to take part! We can't wait to find out what next month's book will be...but there's no doubt it'll be hotly debated.
Seroba delivered their start-up clinic during the week, and the feedback from the sessions was super-positive across the board. The Office Hours were kindly sponsored by AIB - and we event managed to grab a photo with a few of the folks who delivered the sessions and helped organise it all - check it out on Twitter right here.

Trevor took to the road on Thursday to visit our friends in Ormeau Baths (shout-out to the entire team for all their hard work, and their warm welcome) - first up, it was Founders Night where there was an insightful conversation between DC Cahalane and Ian Browne. Then, on the Friday it was time for #FirstFridays where an insightful panel discussion and a founder chat took centre stage after an illuminating Welcome overview and Mentoring sessions. Belfast is a phenomenal city, and there's clearly so much happening there right now in the start-up ecosystem, and there is also lots to consider about the future possibilities...so keep an eye on our blog next week to hear some of Trevor's takeaways from his trip.
