Four W’s of the Construction Industry

Four W’s of the Construction Industry

In this article we will be looking at the four W’s (Who, What, Where, When) in the construction industry.

1) What is Construction Industry?

The construction industry is an important sector that helps in improving the recycling of materials to use natural resources more efficiently this includes manufacturing and trading. It is the most popular industry as its market size is around 10 trillion US dollars. This is because the construction industry is responsible for the infrastructure of, towns, cities and countries.

2) Who are the mains of the Construction Industry?

In the construction industry, three main pillars hold it all together. They are general contractors, trade construction specialists, and civil engineers for planning and construction. Let’s seek out each of these separately:

General Contractors - We all are familiar with the word contractor, they are the ones who build the building, commercial construction, and roads. The general contractors get the project from the companies and they have to manage it from plumbing, and painting to electrical works of the building.

Constructing Trading- In the construction industry, most of the work needs supplies that include brick layers, floor installers, cement, etc. The specialty trade group works under the general contractors to work on the trading.

Civil Engineers- They are engineers who work for public or private in building roads, bridges, railways, and other infrastructure for the country.

3) When will 2022 world’s biggest construction projects end?

California High-Speed Rail

Estimated Cost: USD $98 Billion

Phase: Active

The California HSR was an original proposal to connect the major city centers from San Diego to San Francisco. Even though the plan was already created decades it comes in favor on 2008 with funds secured in 2019. The construction is active in the present still it will be expected to take a lot more years to complete. This is a megaproject that is costing billions of dollars at a time. The completion of this project is merely an estimation that is around 2033.

Dubailand

Estimated Cost: USD $76 Billion

Phase: Active

Well, the name Dubailand gives us two clues, one that the place it is happening in Dubai and the other is ‘land’ which is Disneyland. It will be much bigger than Disney land which is one of Dubailand that will be constructed on 129 square miles of land. This themed land can offer a great entire entertainment city on a large scale. There are no statements on the ending but it will be continuing in 2022.

Plant Vogtle- Units three and four

Estimated cost: USD $30 Billion

Phase: Active

Plant Vogtle located in Waynesboro, Georgia is trying to construct unit three and unit four as it will lead them to become the largest nuclear plant in the United States. As there is a lot of natural recourse needed the employment rate in this construction region got hiked with 800 permanent jobs at the units as it begins its operation. The project is active with the first reactor of Vogtle three will be completing in the third quarter of 2022. The Nuclear plant will also help in a zero-emission energy source that leads to cleaner energy alternatives.

Intel Semiconductor project

Estimated cost: USD $20 Billion

Phase: Active

Intel semiconductor project is located in Chandler, Arizona (US), with two factories coming. These two factors have a deadline of 2024, it will take require working around the clock. The aim is to create three times larger than the old facility of Intel in Arizona (US)

4) Where is the future leading?

Protective Equipment: Prevention is better than cure right so in order to be safe on the construction site try to incorporate strict safety protocols. Transportation of the supplies can be risky so many companies use 3D printers these days.

Technology Incorporation: This will help to increase efficacy like the use of smart contracts that is an all-in-one tracking system, construction drones, 3D visualization like AR, etc...

Remote Worksite: As the pandemic hit everything moved to a remote setting, with access to mobile camera workers will be able to take accurate measurements, real-time inspection, and on-site accountability.

Green Building: With the green building (rooftops and balconies with gardens or Small Park) sustainable construction has become more popular.

Smart City: In this technology-dominating world many of the big tech companies are investing in huge projects to construct smart, sustainable cities.
