December 22, 2016: Last evening, North Carolina lawmakers failed to repeal the controversial H.B. 2 bathroom bill, requiring transgender individuals to use restrooms matching their birth sex. A proposal was forwarded that would repeal the bill, but it caused the negotiations to fall apart, because it banned new local regulations pertaining to employment practices for 6 months, in an apparent effort to prevent Charlotte from enacting another expansive anti-discrimination rule protecting LGBT folks.
