Four types of popular SPC floor
SPC flooring is definitely the most popular flooring in recent years. Its extra large size allows SPC flooring to better adapt to high and low temperatures. Most people know that there are 4 common types of SPC flooring on the market now, so what are the differences between these types of flooring? Let's talk about them one by one.
Pros and Cons of SPC Flooring
?Pros:
100% waterproof
Low installation cost - it is cheap to do it yourself, or professional installation can significantly save labor and materials. The cost of professionally installed tile is usually between $5-10/square foot, while SPC is $1.50-2/square foot.
Easy to install – Click systems are easy to complete with minimal tools, waiting time, and effort
Looks great – Choose from countless patterns, colors, and textures to get the exact look and shade you want
Some are compatible with radiant heating
Eco-friendly – Avoiding real wood protects the earth’s natural resources and can be recycled
Safe, better air quality – Contains no hazardous chemicals like formaldehyde, glues, benzene, and phthalates commonly found in flooring
Some soundproofing – Multiple layers of the material provide some natural soundproofing
Warranty – SPCs typically come with a great manufacturing warranty, and the length of the warranty typically increases with the thickness of the wear layer and the core of the plank
?Cons:
Not super scratch-resistant. While the core is very durable, the top wear layer can show noticeable scratches from heavy use. It’s great for regular use in residential and light commercial applications, but not recommended for commercial spaces with high traffic.
Thinner materials don’t offer as much cushion underfoot compared to hardwood or laminate.
Needs to be applied to a flat floor. The thicker the plank, the more forgiving it is on uneven surfaces.
Cannot be installed in outdoor spaces.
Not fade-resistant - If you place SPC in an area with lots of natural light, it will fade over time. We do not recommend using it in sunrooms.
It is not wood - Ultimately, these hardwood substitutes will never match the value of real wood, so the resale rate of SPC will be lower than that of real hardwood floors.
Regular single-layer SPC flooring
1. Regular single-layer SPC flooring is also the most common, affordable and quality-assured one. Suitable for some projects or commercial uses, such as halls, shops, etc. It is also suitable for people with tight budgets. The approximate price ranges from a few cents to $2 per foot.

Regular double-layer SPC flooring
2. Regular double-layer SPC flooring, also known as BA core or ABA core flooring. When you walk on this floor, it feels better underfoot. The structure of the sand wedge makes the floor more stable. It costs 5% to 20% more than single-layer SPC flooring. Homeowners usually like to use this embossed imitation wood flooring with EVA or IXPE foam backing.
EIR SPC Flooring
3. EIR (machined embossed) SPC flooring, after embossing, looks like real wood flooring. This is also the highest-end SPC flooring on the market. It costs 20% to 50% more than double-layer SPC flooring. And it looks very beautiful and real. It is also very suitable for homeowners with pets.
Aluminum Oxide Technology SPC
4. The last type of SPC flooring. It has a very hard appearance because it uses aluminum oxide technology to increase the surface hardness by 30%-80% compared to ordinary double UV coating. This is very suitable for homes with pets and babies, or commercial areas with heavy traffic.
Please note that all types of SPC floors can add underlay, EVA or IXPE foam to increase the comfort of walking on the floor.
SPC flooring will be very popular in the next few years, and I am sure that the new super hard flooring will please you, your children, pets and customers.
