When the body and mind get too comfortable (it senses no threat or danger, it becomes complacent and less flexible to changes). Hence we find ourselves stuck, often going around in circles, knowing that if we could only break out of our ruts, we'd achieve our goals.
Here are four tricks to break out of that comfort zone and it starts with:
1. Reframing your definition of being ‘comfortable’
We often stick with our comfort zone because we associate it with being safe and secure. But if we stay in our comfort zone for too long, we also start feeling bored and stagnant.
So, what if our comfort zone was also our ‘failure zone’? Maybe it's time for us to redefine our definition of ‘comfort’ to be more open to new things, growth, new purpose and abundance of knowledge. The change starts with shifting your mindset.
So, what if our comfort zone was also our ‘failure zone’?
2. Face your Fears
Identify what makes you feel uncomfortable or uncertain and get to the root cause of it. After all ‘the only way out is through, right?
Understand why you fear certain situations and the ‘why’ behind these fears. Once you start acing your fears head-on, it will boost your confidence and allow you to see your potential that was going unnoticed because of these fears.
At some point last year, I felt like I was achieving all the goals I set out, but I became exhausted and I was confronted with my past fears and then came the excuses. I really had to check myself - every excuse I made drew me further from where I want to be. That shook me enough to stop making excuses, understand what I was truly afraid about and then I moved forward.
It was quite a harsh 'self assessment' but that was how I overcame my hesitation and I knew that even if I failed, it would be a lesson to improve and become a better person.
3. Learn something new
Be more open to learning something new that’s outside your expertise or knowledge. Tell your mind that trying new things is safe and will only help you become bolder in life.
Try out new cuisine, learn a foreign language, read a book that's not your usual genre, be open to meeting new people, create a new life routine for yourself.
4. Find a compelling vision and go after it
You have to find a vision that ignites a burning desire that drives you to be more adventurous and open to risks. Once you feel you have found your goal your passion your burning desire, just go after it! The hunger to reach your goal will overpower the fears that come along your way.
Key takeaway:
Even if you don't follow through with all four tips, just pick one of them and use it as practice. You'll naturally use all four tips (and create more of your own along the way) so that you achieve all the success you deserve and have always wanted.
