FOUR REASONS WHY YOU PROCRASTINATE
Procrastination is the disconnection between your intention and your implementation.
I do believe that somehow, somewhere, and sometimes, as human, we all procrastinate. If you are happy with your own procrastination that’s totally fine, but if you think your procrastination is blocking you from what you truly want to achieve in life and you want to have more insight on your own behaviours and gain more clarity with the direction you are moving, keep on reading.
From my years of experience, there are 4 reasons why you procrastinate.
The number one reason you procrastinate is that you bite more than what you can chew. It can be as simple as cleaning your office, building a website, or starting a business plan. Sometimes the task requires too much energy and you stuck there wondering what to do - it’s when procrastination occurs. From my personal experience, I will normally break down the task into smaller sub-tasks and put them in a checklist. Instead of freaking out thinking what I need to do, with the checklist, I know exactly what I will do next and the feeling of ticking a task off the list is just indescribable.
The second reason you procrastinate is because you don’t believe what is valuable or important to you. If things are not on your priority list, then you will have difficulties to get it done. If you don’t see going to the gym will help or benefit you, you will always have difficulties going to the gym. If you don’t find finishing a task rewarding, you’ll slack and avoid doing it as much as you can.
The third reason you procrastinate is because you don’t schedule the time and activities that you have to do. If everything is not scheduled then nothing is put into place and it’s not real. It will always be a dream unless you schedule in time.
This way of getting things done gives you a false sense of confidence. It makes you believe that you can get any job done, regardless of how late you start. The thrill of achieving something that seemed so impossible—like creating an entire presentation for an important meeting in just one night—gives you an unforgettable high. You feel proud, relieved (and probably exhausted). But you did it! And maybe you can do it again ... and when you think you are able to get anything done, regardless of how late you start, you have no motivation — no reason—to stop procrastinating.
The fourth reason is that the most important reason for your procrastination which I work a lot with you my clients which is your fear. There are many different kind of fear which might hold you back from taking action, it could be fear of failure, fear of making decision. fear of rejection. even sometimes, its hard to believe, its fear of success.
So if you want to really overcome your procrastination, think about how to overcome all these blockages.
