The Four Pillars of Our Community Development Initiatives
1000 Island Hotels & Resort Pvt. Ltd.
A modern retreat in Sasan Gir, Gujarat, recognised by @regenerativetravel as India's first Regenerative Hotel
In today's fast-paced world, the concepts of sustainable tourism and community development have gained significant traction. As travellers increasingly seek authentic experiences that not only rejuvenate their spirits but also positively impact the places they visit, hospitality ventures like our flagship property, Woods At Sasan, are leading the way in integrating sustainability into every aspect of their operations.?
For Woods At Sasan, India's first regenerative hotel, the commitment to sustainable community development is a way of life. Our four pillars of community development initiatives are:
1. Shramdaan
At the heart of Woods At Sasan's community development initiatives lies the ethos of Shramdaan - voluntary contribution of labour. Through various engagement programs focused on villages in and around Sasan, we are actively involved in empowering local communities through knowledge sharing, skill development, and waste management education. With 24 impactful programs touching the lives of over 15,000 villagers, Woods At Sasan is making strides in creating sustainable livelihoods and fostering a culture of environmental stewardship.
2. Swasthaya Sewa
We recognise the importance of providing accessible healthcare services to local communities. The Swasthaya Sewa initiative, in collaboration with the Ayush Centre, is dedicated to promoting holistic well-being by cultivating and maintaining an Ayurvedic Herb Garden at Borvav. Additionally, the construction of a healthcare centre in Borvav aims to serve 45,000 locals from 16 nearby villages, ensuring they have access to quality healthcare services when needed most.

3. Samajik Granth Pariseva
Education is the cornerstone of progress, and we are committed to nurturing a culture of learning and creativity within the local community. The Samajik Granth Pariseva initiative encompasses a community library that serves as a hub for knowledge sharing and inspiration. With nearly 600 books catering to diverse interests, the library has become a centre of activity, bringing people together and fostering a sense of community. Through efforts led by volunteers and the Woods At Sasan team, over 1,000 books have been collected, benefiting 285 students in five schools in Gir Somnath district.
4. Krish Utpadan
Supporting local farmers is integral to sustainable community development, and our Krishi Utpadan initiative aims to empower farmers. With over 100 farmers connected via a dedicated WhatsApp group facilitated by agricultural expert Mr Shukla, the resort provides a platform for farmers to discuss challenges and share knowledge. Through this program, Woods At Sasan pledges to purchase good-quality organic produce from local farmers, thereby bolstering their progress and fostering a thriving agricultural ecosystem.
As we navigate the complexities of the modern world, we must recognise the interconnectedness of all living beings and our shared responsibility towards the planet and its inhabitants. Our initiatives strive to prioritise engagement, well-being, knowledge sharing, and empowerment to enrich the lives of local communities and pave the way for a more sustainable and inclusive future for all.
