1?? Data fusion

When measuring steep-sided samples, stylus flanking may occur because typical stylus tips have an included angle of 60°, which limits the valid measurement to an angle of ~45°.?

In these cases, the whole surface cannot be measured with a single trace. Our solution is to measure the steep sides and the flat region of the sample separately and use the Data Fusion functionality on Metrology 4.0 software to combine these traces together. Then you are able to produce the complete profile of the sample ?? Most importantly, this powerful tool is fully automatic and disregards any invalid data that is caused by stylus flanking. Let's apply this principle to a fuel cell measurement. The biggest difficulties measuring a fuel cell are, aligning the part to the measurement axis and measuring the grooves along the surface. In the example below, the fuel cell grooves have an angle of up to 75°.

3?? Parallelism analysis

Linear rail guides are made for applications that require precise motion with high load-bearing capacity ?? When the parallelism between two rails of a linear guide exceeds the manufacturer’s specified?#parallelism?tolerance, it results in extra side loads, shorter #lifespan, and inferior travel accuracy for the linear guide system ??

To make sure opposing rails are parallel to each other and the ball bearings move in a straight line along the rails of the carriage, manufacturers need to check the rail straightness, PCD, and parallelism of the opposing rails. Metrology 4.0 software measures the precise relationship between the opposing rails, then automatically fits balls of known radius to the traces to find balls' contact points and centers along the length of each linear guide carriage rail. This information is then used to determine the carriage rail straightness, PCD and parallelism.
