The Importance of DICOM

Usually #patients can get a #radiology film after CT, #MR examination. This film is extracted then printed by doctors from DICOM form imaging material.

Actually there are huge amount of image data in original DICOM format. Like after a #CT examination, it will generate over 900pcs photos, with which the #doctors can clearly see the size, position,shape of nidu from different angels.

The comprehensive information brought by DICOM greatly avoid missed/ wrong #diagnose. Hence, it’s especially important to provide original DICOM data to other doctors for secondary diagnose.

How does DICOM work?

DICOM #calibration of medical display needs highly accurate front screen photometer. It’s installed on the surface of screen, with inner blocking device to exclude the influence of external light sources.

With such photometer precise lightness of display will be measured and recorded, to achieve timely adjustment. It can take traceable measurement of complete DICOM curve twice a second in the entire service life of display.

The Origin of DICOM

DICOM was released by National Electrical Manufacturers Association and American College of Radiology, as a #standardization of digital imaging information format of CT, MR, PETCT... internationally.

In the 14th?part, a strict guidance of the text process of gray scale functional calibration and quality assurance on a medical-grade display.

Color! New Standard is Needed

Only gray display is guided in DICOM 14th, so the needs of standard revise arouse when color image becomes popular gradually. Thus color image is actually calibrated according to GSDF standard.

Nowadays, CSDF (Color Standard Display Function) appears as extension of DICOM GSDF. The new standard will be helpful in keeping high level #accuracy of color medical image.
