The Four # 1 Things: Thing 1

Hello All -

When I looked at this article's headline, it seemed more like a Dr. Seuss book title than something you would see in a B2B platform. But when I teach a class in video production and marketing, I lead off with the four number one most important things. For those of you who are just dying to know, they are: lighting, audio, composition, and content.

Let's start with lighting. Without lighting, your video is nothing. It may have sound, but this is not the way to put your best foot forward with your company's image. Think of the two major characteristics of lighting: soft and hard. Remember The Beatles first album

This is a great example of hard lighting. The shadows fall sharply off their faces. Half of the face is will lit, the other half is in silhouette. Very dramatic, but not appropriate for your business video. Soft lighting is just the opposite. The light gradually tapers off the face. Here is an example, photo courtesy of Adobe Stock

The effect is much more pleasing and more fitting for your video. When filming, see if you can use natural light from a northern facing window. Better yet, try a large light source like a soft box.
