The Four #1 Things, Thing 2: Content
Hello All -
In my January 27th article, I wrote about lighting as the number one most important thing for your videos. Today we will address another number one thing: Content. Content is king, as they say, so let's jump right in.
You want to keep your audience engaged with your video. You want to create "sticky eyeballs". If your audience loses their attention with your video, it's very hard to get them back. Sad to say, but a goldfish has a longer attention span than a person. You need to develop a strategy with your videos to keep the viewer's interest. Here are a few pointers:
The five second takeaway - If you can keep your audience's attention for the first five seconds, chances are they will watch the rest of the video. Do this by showing how you can solve their business problem at the beginning of the video. Resist mentioning how many clients your have or how long you have been in business or how customer service is your number one priority. The only reason people are watching your video is to see if you can help them with their business.
Use text - Adult learning theory tells us that we learn in three different ways: We see a person talking, we hear the person talking, and we read what the person is talking about. If you add text (bullet points are also a good idea) to your video, people will be reading what you are saying. It is a form of active listening. This also helps with knowledge retention.
Keep your video short. People speak on an average of 175 to 225 words a minute. In a two to two and a half minute video, you can get a lot of information across. Avoid testing people's attention span and keep your video short.
Avoid long scenes. If you look at a TV commercial, each scene lasts between 2 and 5 seconds. This is what we are use to. If you have a two-minute talking head video, you may lose a few people.
You get bonus points for: adding music. There are many royalty free and copy write free music sites out there. Adding a bed of music in your video will up your production values and add polish to your product.
Changing subjects, let's look at how to get verified on YouTube. I'm getting a lot of information from this article:

Getting verified is easy and once you are verified you can do live streaming and have custom thumbnails. And you can post videos that are longer than 15 minutes which is handy if you plan to do long-form videos such as interview.
In other news, I had the great pleasure of producing a promotional video for West Valley Pet Clinic. You can view it here:
