The Four #1 Most Important Things: Thing 3 - Composition
Hello All -
This is the third installment of the Four Number One Most Important Things in your video. Today we will address the least understood "Thing", composition.
Composition is basically where things go in your video frame. In your talking head video, is your head dead center in the frame, top right or left, do you care? Why should you care?
The ancient Greeks had this down. So did the Renaissance artists. So if you, the business owner, pay a little attention to composition you could compare yourself to Da Vinci and Michelangelo. This is one of the many benefits of reading my articles!
In your videos, you should be aware of the rule of thirds and place key elements in your frame based on those rules. Below is an illustration nicely summing up the rule of thirds.
Important items, such as your face, a product, or text, should appear at one of the intersecting lines. Here are two photos showing the rule of thirds in action.
Since people read from top to bottom, left to right, I suggest you place your face in the upper left hand third of the frame, leaving the right side for text. Here is a nice example of this idea.
Are rules made to be broken? Yes they are and I'm the first one to admit to putting a face in the center of the frame. At least I put their eyes in the top third of the frame.
So as you go forth in your video creation efforts, keep in mind the rule of thirds and you will be well on your way from going from good to great.
BONUS: The first person to contact me and tell me what the cover image is called and why I used it you will receive a discount on your business video with me.
