Fountain Creek Trail Repair
The plan for this project was to replace a section of concrete trail along the Fountain Creek in Colorado Springs. The trail washout occurred because the two existing 18" culverts became clogged with debris, damming up Spring Run and the power of the water washed out both the trail and existing grouted rip rap.
El Paso County Parks, with assistance from Public Works developed a plan to fix the trail and install a new concrete box culvert which would allow Spring Run, a minor tributary of Fountain Creek to pass under the trail while not constricting the flow or clogging up.
The plan involved installing a new concrete box culvert with an 8' span and 2' rise to let water pass under the trail. The top of the culvert would act as the top of the trail.
The county contracted with Tezak Heavy Equipment to complete the project. Tezak Heavy Equipment?has extensive experience in highway/heavy construction, excavation, slope stabilization, channel armoring, channel improvements. Tezak completed the project on time and on budget.
It is satisfying to listen to the sound of the creek as it gently passes under the trail. Good job team!
