Our Mission is to help healthcare businesses be successful by driving engagement and empowering them to grow.
This is the second in this series of articles and today we hear from Lisa Yelland of Lisa Yelland coaching after she left a corporate position to go it alone 12 months ago.
What did you do in previous roles?
I spent 25 years in corporate sales primarily selling medical devices and, in every role, having a coaching, mentoring, and training element which I enjoyed as much as the buzz of sales.
What made you decide to make this change and why now?
I always had a dream to work for myself but did not really have a firm idea of doing what exactly.?When covid struck, the shock of the situation really made me evaluate what I wanted and how could I achieve it.?Throughout my corporate career, I had invested in my own personal development, gaining skills, qualifications, and experiences to help me overcome my challenges and achieve even more success. Surely, I could find a way to use all my experience and skills to help others overcome similar challenges and to achieve more.??If not now, then when??And so in July 2021, ?I started Lisa Yelland Coaching to provide confidence, presenting and sales coaching, mentoring, and training for ambitious women.
How have you found the transition to working for yourself? Any learns you can share with others?
It’s a journey that’s for sure and I love the freedom working for myself brings.?However, old habits die hard and so I decided early on that I would make certain activities, some daily, some weekly, or monthly, non-negotiables to ensure that I was making time for myself, creating space for flow and not just the hustle that comes so naturally to me.?I also made some of the less interesting business tasks non-negotiables too to help me keep on top of things.?This has been key for me especially as my business has grown.

After 12 months of doing this, and we hope you are still enjoying this, what if anything would you have done differently?
It’s been a year now and what a year! No regrets and in some ways, I wish I had taken a leap of faith sooner.?Having said that, I do believe everything unfolds at the right time.?As an eternal optimist, I trust that everything always works out, and in truth, it does, but going forwards I’m making more time for planning and strategy now that I’m so much clearer on what I want and where I’m going.
Unknown fact or misconception about your industry.
When I speak to potential coaching clients, they are often reaching out because they’ve missed out on a promotion, messed up a presentation, or are suffering from a lack of confidence in some way, and don’t get me wrong – it’s so amazing to see the huge difference once we’ve worked together. ?However, I do wonder how much more could be achieved if they were supported earlier in their career, to build a strong mindset before it’s really put to the test, and to be able to embody their own definition of success that isn’t directly linked to business results.?Coaching isn’t just for when things go wrong, investing in yourself is the key to unleashing your fullest potential, and choosing the right coach for you can absolutely help you achieve that.
