The Founders obsession of being a garage start up...

In the recent past, I have come across a few founders who have been overly obsessed and occupied with the genesis of their start up. Beating their chest loud that they are a Garage Startup !! Well founders here’s the bad news for you – Less than 1 in 10 such garage startups really went on to succeed. Unfortunately since a few really big companies today started out in the real sense from garages ( as they say and we believe…pun intended) few Indian founders also love to think the same way even if they don’t do.

Irrespective of where your roots lie dear founders, the only thing that will qualify your idea as a “Success” will be your caliber, ability to let go ( not be a control freak and Mr. know all ), execution and capability of your team and most importantly the tenacity to hang in.

The origin alone does not decide the destiny of an idea - It needs to be executed well. An idea needs something as small as the mind and not a garage to set itself going. Remember you set out to make a successful enterprise not just to hold on to your idea forever. You need people with specific skill sets. It’s time to stop being a control freak, watch closely but encourage the specialists you bring in to help you steer your idea to a success. Have faith in your selection and trust in your specialist to do the job. Understand and accept that you may own an idea, but you can’t do it all alone by yourself. It has to be executed well for it to succeed.

Garage startups will end up as garbage startups if their founders cant get over their obsession with garages. Gentlemen get out of there to an office and more importantly exhibit the character that goes with it to succeed !!!!
