Founder Stories: Moses Rashid

Moses Rashid is CEO and Founder of The Edit LDN, a global online marketplace aiming to disrupt the limited sneaker market. From year one to year two, they experienced 525% growth, and they’re currently partnering with luxury retailer Harrods. Read on to find out how Moses turned his love for sneakers into a business.?

Moses Rashid is a long time sneakerhead, but it wasn’t until a bad buying experience that he decided to turn his attention to the growing sneaker resale market.

“I went to one of those sneaker festivals where I was going to purchase some shoes for £700, and when I asked the guy, ‘Do you have a plastic bag for me?’, he said no. That just blew my mind. I was going to pay a premium for a not premium service. That was the light bulb moment”.?

Creating The Edit LDN was a passion project designed to solve his own problem. Their mission, in Moses’ own words, is “getting [customers] the coolest sneakers quicker than anybody else, in a premium setting”. Moses realised that an offering like that didn’t yet exist on the market, so he decided to create it himself.?

After launching The Edit LDN January 2020, it wasn’t until that September that Moses decided to make it his main focus. This isn’t the first business he’s founded, but it is the first one he’s created in the fashion and retail space. One of the main hurdles that he faced early on was finding payment solutions that prevented fraud, but Brexit and new trade regulations have also been a challenge in getting sneakers to international customers.?

“Nobody really knew what was going on, and so it was definitely a challenge to service the international customers. We made sure that we were assuring and educating our international base and bringing in the right technology to ensure that customs duties and timelines were communicated at point of sale”.?

Since then, they’ve achieved 525% growth between their first and second year of trading, and successfully raised an initial funding round which proved the appetite for their concept.?

Now, Moses is focused on allowing his customers to share in the success of his company through his raise via Crowdcube. “We thought, let’s put our money where our mouth is. This is the opportunity for our advocates to come on this journey with us”.?
