Founded on great traditions and history—a perfect example of a Distinguished Golf Destination

Being in the shadow of the iconic Golden Dome would probably make any facility stand out well enough on its own, but this golf course aims to take that gleaming gold and ensure it shines through every golfer’s experience.?

This facility is marked by the feel of a historic, old-world golf course with accessible amenities and a caring, knowledgeable staff. In the years since it opened, the Warren has become a beautiful confluence between Notre Dame students, faculty, staff and the local Michiana community.

Golf has been woven into the fabric of the University of Notre Dame since 1929, when the first course opened on campus, the Burke Memorial Golf Course (nine holes). The William K. and Natalie O. Warren Golf Course opened in the fall of 1999 thanks to the generous benefaction of William K. Warren Jr., class of 1956.?

The golf course, named in honor of Warren’s parents, perfectly links three of his abiding passions: his family, golf, and Notre Dame. In a nod to Notre Dame, the home of the Fighting Irish, the design is reminiscent of the classic, walkable Irish and American courses built in the late 1800s and early 1900s.

The Warren is the only collegiate course designed by legendary architects Ben Crenshaw and Bill Coore. It features the beauty and upkeep you would expect from a premier golf course. Golfweek rated it the No. 4 course in Indiana and the No. 9 best college course in America.??

On what it means to be a Distinguished Golf Destinations , Demeter says, “To be awarded the Distinguished Golf Destination designation is a recognition of our team’s hard work and dedication to our facility and making each guest’s visit an unforgettable one. We work tirelessly to ensure our guests are welcomed and have a personalized experience that exceeds their expectations every time they step onto our property.”??

In addition to these ratings, the Warren has a long history of hosting significant golf tournaments, including the U.S. Women’s Public Links Championship, U.S. Men’s Open Qualifier and numerous NCAA regional golf championships. Most notably, in 2019, the course hosted the first U.S. Senior Open to be played on a collegiate course and became the first public course to host the tournament.

Kyle Lynne Demeter, the director of golf, explains how she and her team can create such a distinguished golfing experience: “Our incredible superintendent, Matt Yops, and I have a relationship that I couldn’t be prouder of. We’re collaborative, communicative and share in every success together.

“There aren’t two sides of the shop. It’s truly a concerted unit, working to make every guest’s experience remarkable. I leverage the relationships I’ve worked hard to create in 18 years of coaching at the university to ensure that I’m finding the right assets and solutions when challenges arise at the Warren. We’re working together to get everyone’s input and use everyone’s strengths to solve problems together.”

Even the items for sale in the pro shop have a story. The Notre Dame merchandise can’t be found anywhere else in the world, and this creates a unique shopping experience. With specialty items from boutique artists, custom wood creations from local retailer Irish Woodworks and custom Warren-exclusive apparel, the pro shop isn’t to be missed.

While players come for the amazingly affordable golf, they stay and return for the hospitality. Hospitality is this property’s calling card. Staff members strive every day to give guests top-flight experiences and make them feel welcomed and a part of the Warren family.

They make it a point to learn guests’ names and preferences and what they can do to make the guests’ time on the property the best it can be. They want to make sure every guest – no matter the skill level or golf affinity – has a great time.
