Foundational AI / Foundation Models - the cool new technology on the block

“"Foundational AI”, aka “Foundation Models”, seems to be in the news, and after listening to a great 'Babbage from the Economist' podcast,?https://podcasts.podinstall.com/economist-babbage-economist/202206071617-babbage-artificial-intelligence-enters-its-industrial-age.html, ?I have been talking to some friend and colleagues about it, from both a technology and consumer perspective. It’s evoking a lot of discussion and this is one of the many interesting articles that I’ve come across is https://techmonitor.ai/technology/ai-and-automation/foundation-models-may-be-future-of-ai-theyre-also-deeply-flawed. The two areas that seem to be the most relevant and interesting for me are around language and vision. As a developer, I think one of the really cool implementations of this is Github "Copilot" - https://copilot.github.com/, and I love the tagline “more than just autocomplete”. Check out the site to learn a bit more about how it works. As a keen photographer I think some of the work around image creation is absolutely amazing. DALL·E Seems to be the one that’s getting all the attention, especially v2 - https://openai.com/dall-e-2/ - if you want a picture of a polar bear playing the base, then this is the application for you!
