Foundation Time in Offshore Wind

While wind turbines are taking the component spotlight in the wind industry, work on the foundations that support them offshore is a milestone-rich field itself. From the choice of the foundation type, preliminary design, and manufacturing, all the way to their installation at sea.

A major milestone was reached on the South Fork Wind offshore wind farm in the US with the first monopile foundation now in. The moment is even more significant as it marks the first "steel in the water" for the first #offshorewind farm to be built offshore New York and the first commercial-scale project of this kind to be built in the US.

Foundation installation is also about to start on the Gode Wind 3 and Borkum Riffgrund 3 offshore wind farms in Germany, as the heavy lift vessel?Les Alizés arrived at the Port of Eemshaven in the Netherlands to load the first monopiles.

Although not yet at an installation milestone, an Italian offshore wind project is currently doing initial foundation-related work as its developer is looking to employ environmentally sustainable mooring and anchoring solutions for the project's #floatingwind turbines.
