Introduction

In this article, an attempt is made to integrate information on foundation engineering using mindmaps. The foundation design process involves ground investigation, ground improvement, selecting the most appropriate foundation system ( shallow or deep based on the magnitude of load, and settlement criteria during operation), shoring works and pile testing.

Ground Investigation and Ground Improvement

During the early stage of the Project, the Geotech engineer evaluates options for ground improvement benefiting flexibility, cost optimization and mitigating the risk of soil liquefaction. Ground Improvement provides the following key benefits

Shoring Works

During construction, stage shoring works are required to provide a safe working area and existing operational assets around the project site.

Shallow Foundation

Deep Foundation ( Pile Foundation)

Pile foundations are broadly classified into two categories displacement piles and replacement piles.
