The conceptual idea:
Create a book about the business startup process. That was it, just write a book with the concept being... You Have A Cool New Business Idea? Great! So What Do You Do Now?
Since I'd been there, done that... It seemed the perfect subject to write a book about. After all, I've built five different business concepts, sold three of those for nice profits. Plus, over the years I've worked with other individuals, friends mostly, assisting them along their business journeys, so why not write a business startup book.
After being semi-retired the past eight years, I decided to finally write that book. Writing a book had been a bucket list item for years. Then, I enjoyed the process so much, I actually ended up writing two and have plans to publish several more this year. (edit; as of 3/12/24 there are now 3 books) All of the planned books are geared to assist the budding entrepreneur, empowering them through the process of successfully launching a business, profitably growing it, and then to the beyond.
Where did the "Business Matters" brand come from:
Back several years ago a friend of mine, Tim, had started his own personal brand website. At this time personal brand sites were primarily for celebrities, athletes, basically famous people. He convinced me to start my own personal brand site. It was fairly rudimentary, as I have built some fairly complex digital enterprises in the past. The site housed some portfolio type material, aggregated social media posts, and I started a blog... Tim and I tossed around different names for the blog , Tim even created several different logos for various names, but the Business Matters tagline stuck.
Today as I stated this new chapter, this new process, I really got lucky. Unfortunately almost all of my old materials, reels, graphics and the what not were destroyed. Only a small amount survived and that stuff is packed away in storage. That is, except for a flash drive I found in a box of old cables and things of that nature. That flash drive happened to have a folder with a few historic artifacts, the Business Matters blog logo being one of the files. So in addition to being a fitting brand for what I'm currently doing, it is also a way to pay homage to the past and say thank you to Tim.
Business Matters Success Solutions. Why go further than books:
While writing the first book I decided to join LinkedIn. The thought was I might be able to promote the book a little. I created an account and only connected with a few people to start. Followed a couple of influencer types and then just observed. Then I started to comment occasionally and by the first of January 1, 2024 I had "tweaked" my profile dozens of times. I had at least half as many "About" descriptions, rewritten my experiences several times, and changed my profile picture like a teenager with their first TikTok account. I basically started experimenting because becoming a "Content Creator" looked like it would be a ton of fun and might just fit with what I had already thought of doing by writing the book.
At the first of the year I made the decision to go all in. I started what I lovingly refer to as my High-Octane Learning season and developing an outline for a hybrid business plan. I set out a base Vision and Mission to develop the Business Matters Success Solutions platform into the "Go-To" place for information about Entrepreneurship and the Business Startup process. I have been slowly ramping up my activity since then.
Which led me to the realization, Content Creation is good, informative, and I do enjoy it. BUT, it didn't seem to provide the complete purpose I found myself looking for after strarting this journey. So taking an inventory of what I truly hoped to achieve, the piece that was missing was coaching. Taking the knowledge I've accumulated, utilizing it, and applying it where the rubber meets the road. That's what I love, what gets me excited, it's creating something from nothing and then cultivating a return. Now, helping entrepreneurs, the people in the trenches working to make their dream come true... that's who I want to help! That's the ultimate component of what I want Business Matters Success Solutions to be, to become. A "Go-To" place for Entrepreneurs and Small Business Owners.
I set a target date of 4/1/2024 as the "launch" date. (edit; Today is 3/20/24)
Thanks to an expansion of the vision over the past few months, the full "launch" of the Business Matters Success Solutions platform is still a TBD. Though the main components are currently available:
So there you have, the basic thought process to Business Matters Success Solutions and the latest iteration in my journey! My main goals in this iteration are simple:
Whadya` Say... Lets have some fun, learn some stuff, and help a lot of people a long the way.
Cheers! Joe
