BE FOUND…

BE FOUND…

The Social Scene

The real idea of being on LinkedIn is surely networking. It means we want to BE FOUND, we want to be known to others for our positives, our accomplishments and not for our flips so that we look goodies on the social scenes. On that thought, it is interesting to see how majority of individuals fail to understand this basic logic and fail to follow fundamental inputs to their profiles, resulting in them being missed out during searches.

It’s a fact that not all employers are experts themselves in hunting for human resources. Most Team Acquisition personnel employ well-known DB’s to hunt for profiles. Hence they easily find individuals who incorporate the well-known and industry standard terminologies, in their profiles & resumes. But how would you really know which terms will help you to be found easily and the faster way.

Being Found

Here comes little understanding of search engines… Take a que from digital marketing, read about search engines and SEO and so on. You’ll find yourself well placed to take on the enigma of search engines. By the way, search engine algorithms are altered every now and then. Hence keep yourself up to the mark at regular intervals.

Have You Noted

Now important Q is how many of us input the important details into their profiles/resumes - 80% don’t and 20% do. Also you would be interested to know that 80% would want themselves to be heard (found) for a job, but fail in the process. Now remember the first statistic and then you’ll realise why many do not appear in the general search results.

Lost and Found signboard

In the first place, I have encountered people who don’t add important facts to their profiles, either they wish to stay aloof or want to look different or some other reason that can be explained by the very individual. These are difficult to find people but may be qualified for a certain job. (picture courtesy shutterstock)

What’s Happening Across

I found a profile which was of a sales professional. Now for a fact Sales professional would be proficient in a certain industry having experience in certain products or services. If the individual misses to mention these facts in the profile page (or their CV) they would miss being found easily. On the other hand that profile would certainly create second level Q (if and when found) of which industry does the individual have experience in, of whether this person is qualified or not for opportunity at hand and so on. Hence the idea is that one should input specifics clearly, to bring as much objectivity as possible to their profiles. And if anyone really wishes to be open for new avenues, then that can be a clear statement in addition to the basics.

One other experience that recruiters have is that of veracity of the skills and capabilities mentioned by an individual in his/her CV. It is found that what one mentions in the CV and what emerges during subsequent discussions, has only 60-70% match. This inconsistency in the CV and the candidates’ inability to confidently stand up to his/her claims in CV, causes a great deal of despair and is wasteful of time as process of sourcing only extends.

So being found and that of being confident of one’s abilities and possible capabilities, is hallmark of a great profile. A great profile cannot be created in one sitting, so take baby steps and approach the light each day, steadily, slowly but surely.
