Fostering your AI fundamentals

Fostering your AI fundamentals

Every organization has different priorities when it comes to AI. Some companies are comfortable with higher risk AI activities, while others are still testing the waters. But either way, you need to document what those priorities are, and make sure that everyone in your workforce is aware of where you stand when it comes to what responsible AI really means. With well-documented and distributed responsible AI use principles, you can begin the rest of your AI governance operations.?

So what are responsible AI use principles? And how should you go about creating your own? Let’s get into it.

What is this??

Everyone talks about the importance of creating a culture of responsible AI, but how do you actually do that? By documenting, and distributing, what responsible AI really means to your organization. Responsible AI use principles are the underlying framework of any AI governance program, and give everyone from the leadership team through to the interns a clear understanding of what kind of company you hope to be when it comes to AI. ?

These principles aren’t some vague ideas floated in a meeting?–?they’re an actual, tangible document that can live and grow with your AI governance program. ?

How does it affect your company??

These principles serve as a north star for everyone using AI in your organization, making sure that everyone is bought into using AI responsibly. Other businesses and regulatory bodies can also use your responsible use principles to gauge your company’s overall stance on AI governance. But perhaps most importantly, these responsible use principles are a core part of building trust with your customers by clearly demonstrating your values when it comes to using AI. ?

How can you put it into practice??

Clarifying what responsible AI means to your organization and documenting your responsible use principles should be one of the early steps in your AI governance journey. These principles are your foundation for all the rest of your AI governance activities, so make sure your foundation is strong. ?

You don’t need to start from scratch to develop your own responsible AI use principles. Your existing company culture and values, as well as your AI risk appetite, will all help formulate what responsible use of AI means for your organization. ?
