Fostering Workplace Resilience: A Take on Workplace Equality, Inclusion and Human Rights

Do not treat all employees equally! Yes, in a world where it is being reiterated- 'treat all employees equally' we as thought leaders would want to put forward that - Equal isn't fair and fair isn't equal. People are different and have different needs. The 'One size fits all' approach would never work for companies that want to make a difference. To build a strong talent pool companies will first have to understand people from different walks of life, their needs and their potentials. Companies will have to think of giving people their space and environment to grow.?

EQUALITY - Reducing inequalities, advancing human rights, being the theme of Human Rights Day 2021 by?United Nations , we at?Zyeta , tried to brainstorm on how we can try to reduce inequality in our domain and make workplaces resilient and accessible for all.?

Thus, here's our take on making workplaces equal, inclusive and resilient.

People Define the Culture and not Vice-versa

Rather than playing safe and "equal"--trying to help people fit in the company culture, it is better to devise a culture where everyone is heard, welcomed and not judged; a culture where people can be who they are and yet grow exponentially. When leaders treat people with empathy and make them a part of the growth plan, inequality at the workplace is abolished, making way for a culture that is people-centric, healthy and resilient.

Reinforcing Human Rights at the Workplace

Work and workplaces have become an integral part of our lives, thus this is where human rights hold the maximum importance. Workplace exploitation is a real thing and something that must be put an end to.?

Therefore, we have chalked out some major human rights that must be addressed at the workplace to make work and work environments progressive.

Right to Refuse Hazardous Environment

This does not essentially apply to warehouses and factories; offices can be hazardous too! The pandemic has taught us the importance of health and hygiene, and thus workplaces ought to realise the importance of employee health. It is the time businesses take steps towards?making workspaces healthy and safe for all.

Right to Have a Conducive Work Environment

We believe this is of utmost importance to take care of an employee’s physical, mental and ergonomic needs at the workplace.?Strategy and design ?can help businesses to plan the workplace experience better and provide the employees with the optimum amenities, making the workplace experience conducive.

Right to Dignity at the Workplace

The work culture should not in any way discriminate among people. Every employee must be respected and not judged for their social-culture backgrounds, gender or sexual preferences. It is the work that matters at the workplace, hence, there should be no personal aspect overpowering one's professional identity.

All in All

As quoted by?Indra Nooyi ?"Diversity is a program. Inclusion is a state of mind", Businesses can make a difference by looking at inclusion and human rights as a state of mind, as a culture and not just as a "tick-box exercise".
