Feeling overwhelmed and experiencing self-doubt in the workplace? Found camaraderie and acknowledgment of these struggles with your teammates?
If you said yes to the questions above, you may be dealing with leadership underperformance. You might be aware of gaps in your performance without any emphasis on the positive outcomes of your efforts, lacking feedback and recognition as a counterbalance to constructive criticism. Effective leadership, providing both constructive criticism and affirmation, is crucial.
To rebuild trust, I propose tracking your positive outcomes as well as the received negative feedback. If the list builds up and makes you feel less than an important team member, bring your concerns to your leader and show the results of your tracker, highlighting the balance of positive vs. negative outcomes of your work. Believe it or not, your leader might be overwhelmed with problems and blind to the good contributions you provide.

"A good leader takes a little more than his share of the blame, a little less than his share of the credit." — Arnold H. Glasow
"Criticism, like rain, should be gentle enough to nourish a man’s growth without destroying his roots." — Frank A. Clark
