The annual Public Health Information for Scotland (PHINS) seminar was held online this year on October 29 2024. Seminar Chair, Dr. Kalonde Kasengele , Consultant at Public Health Scotland and NHS Lothian , reflects below on how the day went and where to go to view presentations.
This year’s Public Health Information Network for Scotland (PHINS) seminar?brought together over three hundred public health professionals, academics, and third sector representatives online to explore the latest developments in public health.?
I had the privilege of chairing?this year’s seminar, where we heard a range of presentations that offered unique perspectives and sparked rich dialogue on how we can collectively address the pressing public health challenges facing Scotland today.?
We were fortunate to hear from speakers from the 英国格拉斯哥大学 , the 英国斯特拉斯克莱德大学 , The Poverty Alliance , the Joseph Rowntree Foundation (JRF) , and my own colleagues at Public Health Scotland. They provided thought-provoking presentations on topics that included mental health and wellbeing, social security, greenspace, and social support.?
The seminar was recorded, ensuring that those who could not attend can still benefit from the wealth of information and discussion shared. If you were unable to attend, I encourage you to view the programme and presentations, which are now available on the ScotPHO website .?
Reflecting on the event, I am reminded of the importance of PHINS. The seminar continues to be a vital space for sharing knowledge and fostering collaboration among the public health community. Each session provided valuable insights, encouraging us to think critically and creatively about solutions to improve the health and wellbeing of our populations.?
While we acknowledge the significant challenges we face in Scotland, it is inspiring to see the emerging solutions and the potential they hold for improving our communities’ health and wellbeing. ?
As we move forward, I look forward to continuing these important conversations and working together with a shared purpose.?
