Fortnight gets a Disney makeover, and TikTok unveils Search Shortcut

1/5 TikTok introduces a new search shortcut

TikTok wants to get more users searching for things in the app, and has begun prompting users to download a dedicated TikTok Search shortcut that can be added to their device home screen. The new shortcut makes it easier to find TikTok content without having to tap through to the relevant area within the app. This could possibly help TikTok become more of a shopping hub by highlighting relevant product matches in the app, leading to more discovery behaviour being routed through this process.

2/5 WhatsApp to become interoperable with other messaging apps

Having different conversations on different platforms can be tricky to keep up with. So, WhatsApp is doing the unthinkable: allowing users to message you from another platform. For the past two years, WhatsApp has been building a way to plug its service into other messaging apps, whilst maintaining its end-to-end encryption. The shift to opening itself up stems from the Digital Marketing Act’s demand for Meta to meet EU legislations.

3/5 Facebook and Instagram to label fake AI images

Meta is introducing new technology that will detect and label images generated by AI tools. Meta already labels AI images generated by its own systems, but is hoping the identification of third-party AI generation will quell the AI fakery pandemic taking over social media. However, the tech is very much in its early stages, so experts claim it will be easy to evade the labelling.

4/5 X develops Article Content for long-form posts

In yet another bid to become a reliable source of information, X is attempting to become a competitor to mainstream publishers—by being the only platform that tells the truth, but this time in long-form content! The “everything” app is introducing X Articles, which will allow users to publish articles directly onto the platform, and be shown in their own feed. We can’t wait for all the insightful articles coming our way!

5/5 Disney’s Magic Universe is coming to Fortnite

Disney has purchased a $1.5bn stake in Epic Games, and teamed up with the company to develop a new expansive, open, and social universe that allows Fortnite players and fans to play, watch and engage with their fave Disney characters—across Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, Avatar and more.
