Formula Ivan - Feature II
The History :
Last week, I talked about the reason why I am, how I am, the way I am.
This week, I hope to delve into how I became that.
Those who know me since my childhood know me to be very introverted, a quiet child. My father's an industrialist so I'd always looked up to him when he spoke to so many people he knew and who knew him because of his work and I too wanted to be known.
Coming from an introverted child who doesn't speak to anyone as much and usually existed in the shadows, that's a huge thing.
My mother used to tell me that to be known, to be famous, I had to stand out from the world. And how would I stand out from the world? I would need to do something special.
either
beat the rest at something
or
come up with a race of my own
I chose the first option :")
Beat the rest at something.
Easier choice, because the race is already defined, the track is set and you know when to run, how to run, where to run.
But run!? I was a illusioned kid when I was small. Why should I run? Do I even need to run? Foolish people run. were the questions in my head.
But yeah I had to run anyhow. So I started to focus on choosing the race.
I wasn't always motivated enough to try out stuff. I wasn't the most genius student, so the question of me making a mark through my studies never arose.
I was interested in public speaking, but my knees would start to shiver on stage. I'm also grateful to a lot of teachers for giving numerous opportunities even after I have faltered the first few times. But even after having so many chances, I did become better but my speech still falters sometimes and I'm not even close to being a groundbreaking speaker.
I used to play sports at youth levels, namely cricket, football, basketball, tennis & karate. The most emphasis on tennis. I did try to make it pro. But I wasn't the best tennis player in the world by the time I thought I should have been and the wise decision I took was to not pursue it any further.
I also took up writing at YourQuote , finally figuring out a talent in art like my mother always used to wonder that her kid and not an artist!? NO WAY. A bit about her, my mother is Sunipa Ghosh Sarkar, she's a government school teacher and the most influential person in my life. On the art front, I've never seen someone recite, sing or draw better than her. I received my fair share of plaudits but there was no one including me saying that I was the best writer in the world.
If you've read it till this much, you'd have come across a thought.
Why does he have to be the best? Why does he quit if he's not?
Because when you beat the rest at something, you become the best and yeah that and nothing else, will make me famous and known right!? So why should I continue doing something I'm not the best at?
Ahh, and as you can see I severely failed at that, failing to be the best in whatever race I was running. Tired from running, I quit the tracks.
Okay, so time for Option number 2.
Come up with a race of my own.
Sounds tough, is even tougher. And I was at a loss. I had no idea on how to come up with a race of my own.
I decided to do something.
I decided to proceed with making my writing skills my USP. I founded Poetaster's Posies, a literary content creation organization, where I was the sole writer and I had Ujan (Souhardya Chowdhury) edit the quotes I had written at YourQuote into videos to be posted into YouTube . 4-5 videos in, I had met some other people who were fairly passionate at writing & editing and I soon formed a team with them. My very first team. Anshu, Ujan, Meghna, Sambit and me.
That was in the year 2020 & 4 years later I still have two of them with me.
I was spirited, young and immature. All three words dreadful to most veteran industry experts.
This marks the end of Formula Ivan : Feature II.
Next week, I'll be back with Feature III : The Process.
