FORMULA E RACING
Just watched the Formula E race from Mexico. The cars are fast, but they all look the same. Surely, the championship would be more interesting for spectators, manufacturers and media if the cars LOOKED like road cars. The lesson to be learned is from NASCAR, who have made saloon car racing the most successful motorsport on Earth. They understood from the start that their racing cars only needed to LOOK like road cars; under their road car bodywork, they have state-of-the-art spaceframe chassis (very strong and rigid for good handling) and every possible driver safety measure (despite speeds of over 200mph and occasional huge multi-car accidents, fatalities are very rare). Each car is obliged to carry huge identification numbers, which each driver keeps for life, making it easy for spectators, marshals and TV to know which driver is which.
