Formula E: more automakers than F1

Last weekend Hong Kong hosted the first round of the third season of the FIA Formula E Championship. The event was not without controversies: the drivers were furious about late changes to the circuit configuration, some fans complained about high ticket prices - and the city's Chief Executive received a vocal ‘welcome’…
But, overall, the mood was positive - perhaps mostly because of the increased interest from automakers. The 2015/16 championship was won by Renault having narrowly beaten Audi - with DS (the luxury brand of Group PSA) and Mahindra also front-runners. This third season has seen Jaguar arrive to much fanfare and BMW take a position - joined also by up-and-coming electric vehicle makers Faraday Future (backed by Le Eco). Mercedes has taken an option for Season 5.
I had the opportunity to speak to various teams and drivers - as well as Formula E’s Chief Revenue Officer - on behalf of FOX Sports. Here’s the result:
