Formula E: at the forefront of innovation
And they are off! My excitement shifts gears as FIA Formula E’s season 7 gets underway today.
Four years ago I was able to watch the action unfold from the pit lane when I attended my first Formula E race in Hong Kong. My childhood associations with motorsports were mostly the epic starts of Formula 1 races – and of course its unique sound. But I must admit, Fomula E was even better for me: Experiencing cutting edge technology up-close, with live data analysis and calibration of on-board technologies, all in a modern, highly interactive racing format. Fantastic!
I am proud that Julius Baer has partnered closely with Formula E since the very first race back in 2014, and that we are still a shareholder in the Series. Formula E is a test-bed for technology and sustainable development of mobility. It’s a great platform to engage our clients. And it’s fun.
This year’s season starter in Diriyah is a case in point. It’s the third race in Saudi Arabia – this itself is notable, marking a broader fuel transition from a fossile past to an alternative future. It is also the first night race, lit up by the latest low-power LED technology that reduces consumption by up to 50% vs. non-LED technology. And power used for floodlighting will be fully renewable.
We are looking forward to seeing the future of mobility unfold rapidly in this decade – and for Formula E to play a pioneering role in it. What are your views on the future of mobility? How will you “move” in 10 years’ time?
As always, I recommend our special report for more insights on Formula E and its impact on mobility. Buckle up!
