Using AM for jigs, fixtures and production aids has proven to be the low-hanging fruit for AM in manufacturing industries. There are various applications within assembly, production, quality control and logistics. We’ll display some examples used by our customers and friends from 奥迪 at Formnext - Where ideas take shape . Advantages of AM for jigs, fixtures and production aids are well-known and solid: Reduced lead times, in-housing, reduced costs for low-volumes, on-demand production and improved abilities to customize these parts for their specific usage.

While everyone in the AM industry is aware of the potential, the adoption is held back by an aspect that has so far received too little attention in the industry: the #designprocess. Today there are only a few CAD experts with limited resources who have the capabilities to generate the 3D models for these cases - and this in a highly manual process and therefore not scalable.

Here, our #FixtureDesigner offers a solution: it’s a web-based software application based on #paramate enabling anyone to configure 3D printed fixtures intuitively. It is using a semi-automated approach to design the fixtures with pre-defined features and routines.
