Former PM Imran Khan faces arrest in Toshakhana case

Political tension has reached new heights after Islamabad Police arrived at former Prime Minister Imran Khan's residence in Zaman Park to execute a non-bailable arrest warrant in the Toshakhana case. The issue of Imran Khan's arrest is more political than legal. Questions are made. PTI declares Imran Khan as its red line, on the news of the arrival of the police; Tehreek-e-Insaf workers went to Imran Khan's residence. Due to the crowd of workers, the police faced difficulties in fulfilling their duties.

In October last year, the Election Commission of Pakistan disqualified former Prime Minister and Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf from being a member of the National Assembly in the Toshakhana reference and ordered to take legal action against him. On February 28, Additional Sessions Judge Zafar Iqbal issued Imran Khan's non-bailable warrant. ?He was accused of not appearing despite repeated court summons. The spokesperson of Islamabad police failed to clarify the purpose of the arrival of the federal police. They kept saying that the police had come to receive a court notice. On the other hand, IG Islamabad told the media that the purpose was to arrest Imran Khan. And workers should not obstruct the arrest. After the political instability and economic crisis facing the country, it is not wise to open the way for insecurity.

Imran Khan has appeared in the courts of Lahore High Court and Islamabad in recent days and indicated that he is ready to appear in the courts. It is understandable that her life is in danger. After the murderous attack on her in Wazirabad, this fear is not unfounded. The nation has already lost Benazir Bhutto, it cannot afford any more loss. The Toshakhana case has been controversial since its inception. The way a large party of PDM has called for the arrest of Imran Khan while demanding a level playing field has created a strong impression among the workers and supporters of Tehreek-e-Insaaf that under the guise of Tosha Khana, Tehreek-e-Insaaf is leadership is being targeted for revenge. According to the law, gifts worth more than 30,000 can be purchased by depositing 50% of the fixed price. Before the year 2020, this discounted price was 20%, but during the Tehreek-e-Insaaf era, it was increased from 20% to 50%. These gifts usually include expensive watches, gold and diamond jewelry, various decoration pieces, souvenirs. , diamond studded pens, crockery and carpets etc.

According to the arrest warrant, notices were issued to Imran Khan to appear in court several times, but he did not appear despite repeated summons. Khan's attendance should be ensured. On Sunday morning, all the roads leading to Imran Khan's residence, Zaman Park, were blocked by the police. The security situation in Lahore city was exceptional. A large number of Tehreek-e-Insaaf workers gathered outside Imran Khan's residence. Imran Khan is alleged to have kept the code against Toshakhana gifts and then sold them. According to the document, the watch that was allegedly sold was not listed in the Election Commission's returns. The regulation against buying gifts from Toshakhana has been done in the first governments as well.

According to NAB reference, when Yusuf Raza Gilani was the Prime Minister, he relaxed the rules by giving Tosha to former President Asif Zardari and former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. The Accountability Court of Islamabad has issued a non-bailable arrest warrant for former Prime Minister Mian Nawaz Sharif in the case of illegal purchase of cars gifted from the Government Tosha Khana, but Nawaz Sharif is in London. He did not come back. According to the reference of NAB, Asif Zardari, as the President, received an armored car BMW 750 'Li' 2005, Lexus Jeep 2007 and a BMW 760 Li 2008 Tosha as a gift from Libya. The reference also mentioned the details of the bank accounts from which Asif Zardari allegedly paid. According to the reference, Asif Zardari is using these vehicles himself instead of depositing them in Toshakhana. The arrest of Imran Khan may postpone the elections, try to exclude Tehreek-e-Insaf from the elections and the third fear may be regarding the future of democracy. This should be kept in mind.
