FORMER FEDERAL ELECTION COMMISSION COUNSEL TROY MCCURRY JOINS THE GOBER GROUP

WASHINGTON—The Gober Group is pleased to announce that Troy McCurry will join the firm in its Washington-area office. With the addition of Mr. McCurry, The Gober Group now boasts more than six decades of combined experience in the political and election law fields, including attorneys who have held key positions in high-profile campaigns, national political party committees, and federal and state government elections and ethics commissions.

During the past five years, Mr. McCurry served as counsel to Federal Election Commission Commissioner Caroline Hunter, including during her time as Chair and Vice Chair of the agency. In that capacity, he provided legal analysis and advice on nearly one hundred advisory opinions, over one thousand enforcement matters, and a multitude of other issues that came before the Commission. Mr. McCurry also played a key role in the development of the regulations implementing the Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act (also known as “McCain-Feingold”) and the Commission’s responses and rulemakings after key court decisions, including Citizens United v. FEC, Emily’s List v. FEC, and McCutcheon v. FEC.

Mr. McCurry currently holds an adjunct faculty appointment at the Columbus School of Law of the Catholic University of America, where he teaches Election Law and Campaign Finance Law. Prior to working at the FEC, Mr. McCurry served as Senior Counsel to the Republican National Committee, providing advice to the committee and its staff on all aspects of election law, pending election-related legislation, post-election litigation and operations, and general corporate and nonprofit legal compliance. During the 2008 election cycle, he was counsel to Mitt Romney’s presidential campaign, advising the campaign on a range of federal and state political law and corporate compliance issues.

In addition to his legal experience, Mr. McCurry previously served as Deputy Political Director of the Republican Governors Association, where he supervised the strategic efforts and participation in over 36 gubernatorial races. He has also held positions in other national, statewide, and congressional political campaigns ranging from field director to campaign manager. Mr. McCurry also serves as a Lieutenant and Intelligence Officer for the United States Navy Reserve, and he was deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in 2014.
