Poppy Harlow on Why Taking a Step Back Could Be Your Most Transformative Move

If you’ve spent years hustling—grinding, striving, and pushing forward—it might feel counterintuitive to hit pause. But sometimes, the most powerful decisions come not from action, but from stillness.

In this week’s episode, I sit down with Poppy Harlow, award-winning journalist and former anchor of CNN’s Morning Show. For over 16 years, Poppy’s career demanded early mornings, constant vigilance, and relentless drive. From covering pivotal protests like Occupy Wall Street to reporting on devastating natural disasters and the pandemic, Poppy was always “on.”

Until she wasn’t.

Earlier this year, Poppy faced the unexpected cancellation of her show and found herself at a crossroads. She had to make a choice: jump into another opportunity or reclaim her time, breathe, and reflect on what’s next.

Poppy is currently navigating what many of us fear: the messy middle of reinvention. She’s not rushing through it, and that’s what makes her story so compelling. In our conversation, she shares her insights on:

  • Letting go of the hustle culture mindset
  • Embracing stillness to uncover new possibilities
  • Making thoughtful career decisions without the pressure to “move fast”

Whether you’re rethinking your career, considering a pivot, or simply longing for a pause, this episode offers a refreshing perspective on what it means to reset and rebuild.

Grab your coffee and tune in for an honest conversation about resilience, identity, and the transformative power of a pause.

?? Listen now to reclaim your stillness and start your next chapter with intention.

Many people don’t have the luxury of taking time off work as Poppy. We need to keep money going to the household. I’m very happy for her.

Although listening to her words felt like myself going back in different times in my life. I definitely enjoyed listening to her and it was great!?I unfortunately have to say that not only did I keep to myself besides the residents and the one time I speak up I become the target all because I reported a situation that was reportable and that made me the bad guy and it was a trickle effect and no matter what I said it was already written down that I was no longer welcome there? I did leave upset of course saying ( what about the females rights) and no one said a word and I was told that I had to leave the property! My union rep said I need to call legal aide and file a civil suit
